Flying through a gate at speeds up to 400kph is hard...doing it 10 metres off the ground is the Red Bull Air Race.
This event is justifiably dubbed a new dimension in Motorsport. The competition features a dynamic new discipline of flying, called 'air racing' with the objective to navigate a challenging aerial obstacle course in the fastest time. Pilots race the clock completing tight turn manoeuvres as they speed through a slalom course plotted by 20m high pylons, called 'air gates'.

The Red Bull Air Race is not just about speed but also precision. Flying low to the ground at speeds of up to 400kph, while negotiating the air gates, requires immense skill only a certain number of pilots in the world possess. Pilots are hand selected based upon their expertise and experience and are at the top of their game. They have to be - the Air Race exerts huge demands on their abilities and bodies, withstanding forces of up to 10G.
The 2008 Red Bull Air Race World Series will work its way around the globe touching down in Abu Dhabi, Sweden, Netherlands, Portugal, UK, Spain, Hungary and two locations in the US. Perth will be the final stop for 2008 where the World Series Champion will be yet again be decided in what is going to be a thrilling event for Western Australia.
