The Canning River brings the serenity of the bush to the buzzing inner suburbs of Perth city.

It flows all the way from the Perth Hills through Cannington, Thornlie, Riverton, Shelley, Rossmoyne and Mount Pleasant to meet the Swan River in the city. There are plenty of riverside parks, picnic areas, cafes and places to launch your craft along its path.

One of the most popular spots to enjoy its tranquility is the Canning River Regional Park, an easy 20 minute drive from Perth city. Walk or cycle the network of paths through diverse natural habitats, from woodlands to wetlands, keeping an eye out for the variety of birds and wildlife that call the Canning River home.

Jump in a canoe or kayak at one of the designated launching facilities and follow the Canning Canoe Trail for a relaxing float down the river - it's the best way to experience the river's spectacular views. Or, throw in a line and try your luck at hooking a black bream, herring, skippy, flathead or mulloway.
