There's something humbling about standing beneath majestic trees, breathing in rich forest air and looking up at billowing natural canopies.
In the southern forests of the South West region you can even climb to the top of some of these beautiful giants and look out over the towering timbers - an amazing experience.
Forest Adventures - Above, Between and Inside the Trees
The Gloucester Tree in Pemberton poses an exciting challenge for visitors - steps fixed around its trunk allow you to climb its 60 metres.
And the exhilarating suspended Valley Of The Giants Tree Top Walk near Walpole provides the opportunity to literally walk through the treetops of the magnificent tall timber forest.
For those who prefer to stay at ground level, stroll among the tingle trees with their cavernous trunks - some of them large enough to park a car inside.
Children will adore watching out for shy but inquisitive kangaroos, beautiful bird life, and even bandicoots and possums rustling in the undergrowth.
Trails, Rivers and Parklands
The landscape of this region is crossed by winding roads and narrow forest trails that open onto leafy clearings and scenic lookouts. Roads fringed with tree giants that are more than 400 years old and stretch up to 50 metres high, weave a path between quaint towns, riverside parklands and secluded beaches.
Potter around the rivers and inlets and try your luck fishing for trout. Take a nature-based tour around the Nornalup Inlet and into the Walpole Nornalup National Park. Or enjoy a great escape up the Frankland River on a floating houseboat - the ultimate in total relaxation.
A Couple of Surprises
Home to many world-famous wineries, the southern forests are also popular for premium local produce such as cheeses and fruity preserves. The prices have yet to catch up with the reputation so you'll appreciate the excellent value.
Another surprise is the giant Yeagerup sand dunes that have formed inland from the coast. Explore them by four-wheel drive.
There's no shortage of accommodation, including luxury eco-resorts, riverside chalets, farmstays, hotels, holiday parks, motels, private chalets and spa-villas.
