Free City Transport
For city travellers, Perth and Fremantle are serviced by a free shuttle-service known as the Central Area Transit (CAT). The CAT services circulate specific routes every five to fifteen minutes during the day. Weekday timetables are more frequent than weekends.

You will find a great network of trains which service the Perth metropolitan area from the Perth city. The train lines are:

SmartRiders are the most convenient way to use Perth's public transport system as they are a cash free method and calculate 'zones' used to travel automatically.
However, tickets are still available at each station and must be purchased before riding the train. A variety of ticket types are available (i.e. Adult, Concession, Child, Senior, Family) and are valid to be used on all Transperth services including buses and ferries. Zone maps are found at all train stations to help identify what ticket you will need to purchase.

To travel around the metropolitan area, Transperth buses can take you to all the attractions you will want to see. Buses are available from bus depots conveniently located at numerous points along the train line. It is also very easy to hail a bus at regular sign posted intervals along bus routes by simply raising your hand to attract the bus driver's attention. SmartRiders or small currency amounts are preferable to use on bus services and change can be given.

Ferry services cross sections of the Swan River from Perth Barrack Street Jetty across to South Perth and down stream to Fremantle.
Regular high-speed ferries also travel from Perth Barrack Street Jetty, Fremantle and Hillarys to Rottnest Island.

There are over 1,000 taxis operating in and around Perth. All taxis are meter operated by time and distance, and run twenty four hours a day. Taxis indicate they are vacant by illuminating the sign on the vehicle's roof. Taxi ranks are situated outside some of Perth's major hotels and close to the shopping areas. They accept both cash and credit card payments for your convenience.
