THE PERTH MINT The Perth Mint
One of the world's oldest gold mints still operating from its original premises, The Perth Mint invites you behind its iron gates to feast your eyes on the largest collection of gold bars on Earth and get your hands on close to one-million-dollars-worth of pure gold bullion.
Just a short walk from the central business district, the Perth Mint opens its doors to visitors from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week.
Originally established as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint in 1899, its primary function was to refine gold from Western Australia's eastern goldfields and produce gold coinage. Continuing with its fine work to this day, this multi award-winning tourist attraction has built up quite an enviable collection.
Marvel at the biggest coin ever made, comprising one tonne of pure gold and valued at 50 million dollars. Cast your eyes over one of the largest nuggets ever pulled from the earth, which takes centre stage among Australia's most dazzling collection of gold nuggets. View the original 1899 vault that houses the world's largest collection of investment gold bars. Or, enter the original melting house for a live demonstration of molten gold being poured to form a solid gold bar.
