Local Marine Produce

Want to learn more about Western Australia's succulent seafood?

Fishing, PembertonHead north to Geraldton for a fascinating rock lobster factory tour.

Experience the fresh scent of the open seas, marvel at the sheer size of the catches and follow a rock lobster's extraordinary journey from the processor to the plate.

To learn more about marron, the third largest freshwater crayfish in the world, visit Albany Marron Farm.

Take a tour through the production tanks, filled with koi, rainbow trout, yabbies and, of course, marron.

Afterwards, enjoy farm-fresh produce at the onsite café - think delicacies such as moist marron and yabby sushi.

King Trout Restaurant signage, PembertonIf you'd rather catch your own spoils, head to the tall timber town of Pemberton - a fisherman's dream.

The local rivers and stream are teeming with perch, marron and rainbow trout - around one million are released into local rivers each year.

Needless to say, supplies are always bountiful.

At the King Trout Restaurant and Marron Farm, located seven kilometres south of Pemberton, you can hire a rod and drop a line in the well-stocked dam.

The restaurant can fry up your fresh catch for lunch - and, as the locals say, there's nothing like a freshly cooked catch of Pemberton rainbow trout!

You can even book a personal fishing guide to introduce you to the best local spots in Pemberton. Just enquire at the local visitor's centre.

Big Brook Dam, PembertonCloser to Perth, Golden Ponds offers a relaxed, recreational setting for family fun seekers seeking a spot of fishing.

There are 54 ponds set on 100 lush acres in Baldivis, flush with silver perch, black bream, marron, trout and barramundi.

The peaceful surrounds are ideal for canoeing, bike riding or a simple stroll, and fly-fishing is also available for experienced anglers.
