Wineries in Western Australia

For generations, the warm climate and ideal soil conditions of the Swan Valley and Margaret River areas have drawn winemakers from around the globe.

Now, Western Australia's wineries are recognised as some of the best in the world, and extend from the Chapman Valley near Geraldton to the far south coast.

Food and Wine Trails

Western Australia's wine regions have a laid back atmosphere with the added sophistication of fresh produce and fine food. Here, whole afternoons can be spent chatting and eating over a bottle of wine and then meandering from restaurant to cellar door and back again for dinner.

Many wineries have restaurants, children's play areas, art galleries, behind-the-scenes tours and even accommodation and tours of local attractions - so you can turn your visit into a full-scale holiday.

Food and wine trails are a delicious way to enjoy both Margaret River and the Swan Valley. Combined with other local produce, from cheese to chocolate, this is nothing short of a gourmet delight - irresistible for a day trip or longer stay.

There are more world-class venues nestled in the karri forests around Pemberton a little further south, as well as in the Mount Barker, Porongurup Range, Albany and Frankland River regions.

This region is a must for wine and nature lovers. The superb cool climate wines are fantastic value for money, and the rolling ranges envelope you in total relaxation.

Offering similar experiences for beer lovers are the many boutique breweries springing up around the state.

River Cruising, Forests, Hills and Beach Holidays

Winery, Swan ValleyA delightful way to experience the Swan Valley is by boat - cruise up the Swan River from Perth and pick up a coach or horse-drawn wagon for a leisurely meander through the vineyards.

In Margaret River, wineries are easily incorporated into a beach holiday experience - or take a charter flight from Perth for a luxury day trip.

There are plenty of regional festivals too, such as Spring in the Valley and the Margaret River Wine Region Festival. For information on festivals and events check out Events Search.
