Kalgoorlie-Boulder Itinerary

Duration: 2 Days

Day 1

Walk along historic Hannan St, looking at the magnificent heritage architecture.

Drop into the WA Museum at the top of Hannan St, which features the social and cultural lifestyle of the eastern Goldfields and boasts an impressive collection of Gold Nuggets and jewellery.

Gold NuggetAfterwards you can walk around to where Paddy Hannan camped and first found gold, then up to Mt Charlotte where the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail finishes. It affords a magnificent view of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and is a good vantage point from which to get one's bearings.

For dinner you should book into one of the beautiful heritage hotels and sit on the balcony watching the town go by while enjoying a delicious meal.

Day 2

Morning
Take a flight with Goldfields Air Services or Jandakot Helicopters and view the huge gold mines around the city.

While at the airport visit the Royal Flying Doctor Base and learn how Australia's famous Flying Doctors service the outback from this important working base. From the airport you can visit Boulder and walk down Burt St to see the beautiful architecture - don't miss the Boulder Town Hall and the Loopline Railway Museum where you can see how the miners once travelled between Kalgoorlie and Boulder.

Panning for gold in KalgoorlieLunch could be a picnic in Railway Park or you might like to walk across to the historic Metropole Hotel for a bite to eat and view the underground shaft which surfaced in the bar for thirsty miners.

Afternoon
Take a leisurely stroll from Hannan St to the Goldfields Art Centre to see the latest exhibition of local art. The WA School of Mines Mineral Museum is just around the corner and definitely worth a visit.

Why not relax in the open air with a walk in Karlkurla Bushland Park - this beautiful parkland features 200 hectares of natural bushland including wildflowers in season. It includes 4km of walk trails, a lookout at the high point of the park, toilets, picnic tables, and interpretative flora and fauna signage.

No trip to Kalgoorlie is complete without a visit to the Super pit lookout, where you can watch the giant haul packs operate in Australia's biggest open cut gold mine.
