Day 1:

Morning: Perth to Broome

Hopping on a direct flight from Perth to Broome will get you there in just two and a half hours. Flights depart daily from Perth, and regular direct flights to Broome are also available from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

On arrival, hire a 4WD and explore the exotic pearling port of Broome while preparing yourself for a truly unique outback adventure.

Afternoon: Broome to Cable Beach

Soak up the beauty of Broome’s world-famous Cable Beach – a 22-kilometre stretch of pristine sand and clear turquoise waters.

Stay into the evening so you can also experience one of the most unforgettable ocean sunsets from a Cable Beach camel train.

Day 2:

Morning: Broome to Derby

Head east from Broome, taking the Great Northern Highway to join the Derby Highway.

In just over two hours you’ll find yourself in Derby – the western gateway to the Gibb River Road, land of the boab trees and home to the largest tidal movements in the southern hemisphere.

Insights into the region’s history, heritage and culture can be discovered with a visit to the Boab Prison Tree, Wharfinger's House Museum, Mowanjum Art and Culture Centre and Kimberley School of the Air.

Choose from local station stays, or hotel, motel, bed and breakfast and camping options.

Stay an extra night and hop on a half-day scenic flight of two of the world’s Horizontal Waterfalls and the 1,000 islands and islets of the Buccaneer Archipelago.

Day 3:

Morning: Derby to Windjana Gorge National Park

Stock up on fuel, food and water supplies in Derby before heading east on the Gibb River Road.

The first 70 Kilometres are sealed, with a gravel road (Fairfield Road) leading to Windjana Gorge National Park.

Follow the three-and-a-half-kilometre walk trail to see Windjana’s abundant wildlife and sheer 100-metre walls carved out of the ancient Devonian reef system.

Afternoon: Windjana Gorge National Park to Fitzroy Crossing

Due to their close proximity, it’s easy to visit Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek national parks in a single day.

Take a good torch and a pair of sneakers (that may get wet), and head 750 metres into the depths of WA’s oldest cave system at Tunnel Creek – entering a subterranean world of bats and fresh water crocodiles.

Head south to rejoin the sealed Great Northern Highway towards Fitzroy Crossing.

Camping is not permitted at Tunnel Creek, but there is a campground in Windjana Gorge National Park, with showers and toilets (fees apply).

For more home comforts, choose from motel-style and caravan park accommodation in Fitzroy Crossing.

Geikie Gorge Geikie Gorge

Day 4:

Fitzroy Crossing to Geikie Gorge

Follow the path of the Fitzroy River – one of the largest rivers in the world when in flood – and take the 20-kilometre drive north to Geikie Gorge National Park.

The best way to explore the area is to join the local Bunuba people for a river cruise and cultural tour of the dramatic 30-metre deep gorge. Spot fossilised ancient lifeforms, as well as native wildlife and freshwater crocs along the way.

You can opt to take the 90-kilometre journey east to the Mimbi Caves where Aboriginal guides will lead you through the enchanting labyrinth of caves.

Afternoon: Mimbi Caves to Broome

Make the 4.5 hour journey west to Broome via the Great Northern Highway for tomorrow's return flight from Broome.

Evening: Broome

Feast on the tropical fusion-flavours that have evoloved from Broome's melting pot of cultures, and check out the town's colourful calendar of events.
