Chris and Nicolle Fenech
Chris and Nicolle Fenech are an example of a true outback romance. Not only has Western Australia's Kimberley region made them fall deeper in love with each other – but their mutual love of the land and of the local people has seen these native Sydney-siders continually be drawn to this very special area of Australia.

"Chris and I fell in love with the Kimberley a long time ago and have been busy telling the world about it ever since," Nicolle said.

"The landscapes of the Kimberley region are simply mesmerising, beauty that has to be seen to be believed.

"Chris often says as we drive along the Gibb River Road or watch another sunset over the amazing Cockburn Range - he could never tire of looking at it."

The couple manage the Sales, Marketing and Public Relations for Home Valley Station in the East Kimberley of Western Australia. Together they've been working on the promotion of the Kimberley region for more than 15 years, since Chris first became involved in the development of the famous El Questro Wilderness Park – transforming it from a struggling cattle station to one of the world's most sought-after holiday destinations.

In the past three years both Chris and Nicolle have been working on transforming Home Valley Station from a cattle operation to a world-class tourism facility. The property has recently undergone a multi-million dollar redevelopment to now offer the ultimate in outback lodging.

Their inspiration to become involved in the Home Valley Station project was born from the fact the property is owned by the Indigenous Land Corporation, on behalf of traditional owners and as a result incorporates an on-site TAFE Academy for Indigenous men and women from the region. The charter of the ILC is to encourage education and provide an economically sustainable project in Home Valley Station that will ultimately benefit the Indigenous people of the region.

"With the Kimberley comes a beautiful collection of Indigenous characters," Nicolle said.

"We feel extremely privileged to enjoy the company of our second family here – warm, amazingly generous and intelligent countrymen and women who a delight to learn from.

"Their deep knowledge of and connection to the land is as unique and the landscapes themselves. We feel very honoured to be able to explore this ancient place with those who truly know it best."

In his early years in the Kimberley, Chris was very honoured to have met and spend a lot of time with a fellow known and loved as Black Pete (Peter Birch). Pete taught Chris much about the Kimberley and was one of the reasons Chris formed such a deep association with the region himself. Sadly, Pete has since passed away however Chris often says he feels him watching over and protecting him during every Kimberley "adventure".
