'Australia' DVD sales are positive

April 04, 2009

Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Australia’ has launched on DVD and Blu-ray down under, despite it still showing in some cinemas.

“The Aussie audience has decided – that makes me feel good,” Luhrmann said.

The early indications are the DVD sales will be strong. Since being released in Australia on 3 April, the DVD has already sold double what Fox expected. And in the US, almost two million DVDs have been sold in one month - 80 per cent of what the film giant predicted it would sell altogether.

Nicole Kidman's role in Australia transformed her life

October 12, 2008

After filming Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia, Nicole Kidman is back in Sydney and reminiscing about how her time in Kununurra transformed her life.

"Within a week there, something happened . . . you get hypnotised by it. We had 43-degree heat sometimes but as soon as you hit the sunset it heals the whole day," Kidman told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The actress spent her weekends swimming in waterholes and under waterfalls in the remote Kimberley region. She gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose this year, and has since joked about swimming in "fertility waters".

"It was just absolutely intoxicating," she says.

The making of the film transformed Kidman from the inside out: "There's a lot of emotion attached," she says.

"I've wanted to do this since I was about 14 - I didn't know what it was - but I knew I wanted to make a film like this."
