Designed by architects J F Allen and C H Nicholas, it was constructed out of Toodyay Stone and was built and unveiled in 1928. A time capsule was placed in the monument on the day of unveiling.
Surrounded by an eleven-acre reserve, the main memorial is encircled on three sides by eight smaller memorials. The memorial commemorates World War I and II, the Korean War, the Malayan Emergency and the Vietnam War.
