Disco Bugs finds joy and excitement in the miniature world of insects and spiders that live in backyards.
After her landlord over-enthusiastically trimmed the jasmine trees in Bridgette's backyard, she searched amongst the removed branches and found several insects and spiders. As she re-homed these survivors, her garden became a make-shift outdoor photo studio.
Her past life as a touring DJ in the 2000s has influenced her aesthetic of bokeh, light and colour. Drawing inspiration from the lights and laser beams she danced under in nightclubs around the world, she casts the bugs as revellers in their own dance floor playground.
Bridgette's series invites us into the magical world of colourful insects and bugs in the plants around us and the grass below our feet.
This exhibition is part of the Head On Photo Festival Perth, presented by the Head On Foundation.
