Hearson Cove, on the Burrup Peninsula near Dampier and Karratha, is a popular spot to spend a leisurely day beside the water, whether swimming, fishing, enjoying a barbecue or simply relaxing in the shade with family and friends.

The sheltered bay and its changing tides offer plenty to explore. Cool off with a swim, take a stand-up paddleboard out on the water, cast a line for sought-after species such as Coral Trout and Red Emperor, or settle in for a picnic or barbecue under the shade. With barbecue facilities and toilets available, it is easy to make a day of it.

As the afternoon gives way to evening, the wide coastal views make a beautiful setting to watch the sunset. From May to October, visitors can also experience the Staircase to the Moon, when the rising full moon reflects across the exposed mudflats to create the illusion of a staircase reaching towards the sky.

Just a short drive from Dampier, Hearson Cove is an easy addition to a visit to the Burrup Peninsula. Nearby Murujuga National Park offers the opportunity to discover an extraordinary cultural landscape, with ancient Aboriginal rock engravings. The cove is accessible by two-wheel drive via a well-maintained gravel road.
