Heading from Albany or Denmark, it's a 50-minute drive to reach Shelley Beach in West Cape Howe National Park. To get to Albany from Perth, it's a 4.5 hour drive. You can also explore this coastline by walking the Bibbulmun Track – one of the world's great long-distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1,000 kilometres.
The huge granite boulders that frame Shelley Beach were formed over 1,100 million years ago and provide shelter for swimming and fishing. Throw in a line from the beach to chase Australian salmon, mulloway, whiting and herring.
During the summer months (December to March) easterly winds create good flying conditions for hang-gliders. Watch them take off from the Lookout car park and enjoy a short walk along the boardwalk.
