With a happy-go-lucky approach to life’s journey, perpetual adventurer and photographer Aaron Green points his trusty troopy, drone and camera whichever way the mood takes him. And wherever he pitches up, he invariably finds the most captivating visual stories that draw you in and make you itch to get out into Western Australia’s impossible dreamscapes.

Dreamer Aaron Green on the road
Just a five-minute scroll through Aaron’s Instagram feed (Lands Unseen) has you instantly in awe of the vastness, vibrancy, and serenity of the state. He’ll take you gliding above the ever-shifting and surprising hues of the Golden Outback’s sprawling salt lakes; floating over the iron-rich red edge of the Kimberley’s Dampier Peninsula; watching an ocean sunset with spy-hopping humpback whales; and flying through a wondrous universe of constellations under infinite dark skies.
“The thing I love most about road trips in Western Australia is the possibilities,” says Aaron. “You can be in Perth one moment, and then you drive a couple of hours down the road, and you're in an entirely different ecosystem. And you can travel two hours from one station to another, and it'll be a completely different experience every time. There's just so much to see. You’ve got so many choices in Western Australia.”
This plethora of choice gives Aaron the freedom to travel a little haphazardly, making random unplanned stops off the beaten track, discovering stories lost to time, and secret corners to set up camp.

Essentially, his life is one big road trip, but there are places that draw him back time and again, and familiar experiences that still surprise him.
“Something that truly moves me every single time is the sunset in the outback. When you look back in your rearview mirror and the dust is kicking up, catching the setting sun. It's just such a simple moment that really gets me every time.
“It's the big skies, too. And the incredible gradient of colours you see after the sun disappears over the horizon, from these lilacs to oranges. It’s so special.”

You’ll often find Aaron pointing his camera up past Wongan Hills in the Golden Outback, where the salt lakes are every pastel shade of the rainbow. Or catching the sunset out beyond Israelite Bay, near Esperance, surrounded by the mountainous Bilbunya Dunes.
“These massive, towering dunes link up with the Great Australian Bight. You can camp on the beach there, and every time, without fail, the sunsets, the location, the drive in, the whole experience always feels like a dream,” smiles Aaron.
And what’s a road trip without a playlist? Over time, and countless adventures, Aaron has curated the ultimate compilation that encapsulates the unique vibes of each region.
“Down in the South West, you've got those deep forests and sprawling, beautiful coastlines, so I've got a lot more chilled out stuff, like Bon Iver. Into the Golden Outback, you've got more of a bluesy rock vibe, like Tame Impala and Lord Huron. Heading to the Coral Coast, it's more tropical inspired, maybe a bit of French new wave, Polo & Pan. Then in the northwest, it's always old blues that sit so well with that old Australian country feel.”

His advice is to hit the road, hit play and lose yourself in the vastness and the little moments. To find the small pieces that resonate with you in tiny country towns and little local pubs.
“To me, that's what a dreamer is - someone who is ready to learn the entirety of themselves and find out what they're capable of. It's not so much about finding yourself when you go travelling, it's about creating yourself.”
