David Mudgedell is a Gija and Kukatja artist with strong cultural ties across the Kimberley and Central Desert. His experience spans both his own artistic practice and work within Aboriginal art galleries, where he developed a deep understanding of the need for culturally safe and empowering creative spaces for Aboriginal peoples.
Driven by a long-held dream to establish an Aboriginal-owned and Aboriginal-led art and cultural business, David founded Tjarrambayi Arts in January 2026. Beginning as a pop‑up shop and gallery in Kununurra, the space launched with five main artists and quickly became a welcoming place for artists to gather, create, and connect.
Tjarrambayi Arts provides a culturally grounded environment where Aboriginal artists from all Country can come together with purpose, producing art, sharing culture, and strengthening identity. It offers a space that artists can truly call their own, where self‑determination, respect, and community are at the centre of every activity.
