Ngauwudu (Mitchell Plateau) is a spectacular wilderness destination in the northern Kimberley, where dramatic sandstone escarpments, tropical rainforest, waterfalls and Aboriginal culture come together on Wunambal Gaambera Country.

The journey is part of the adventure. Travel north from the Gibb River Road along the Kalumburu Road, passing Drysdale River Roadhouse before continuing towards the Mitchell Plateau. A fully equipped four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and confidence in remote off-road driving are essential. Kalumburu Community is also part of the wider journey through this remarkable region.

Explore the cultural and natural landscapes of Munurru, including ancient rock art sites and the King Edward River. Munurru also has a Wunambal Gaambera-managed campground, providing a base for visitors travelling into Ngauwudu.

At Mitchell River NP, walk from Mertens Creek Campground past Bunjani (Little Mertens Falls) and Bunjani (Big Mertens Falls) to Punamii-Uunpuu (Mitchell Falls). Scenic flights from Kununurra, Broome and the Mitchell Plateau area offer another way to experience the landscape, with some flights landing for visitors to explore on foot.

Guided 4WD, tagalong and bushwalking tours are available. Visitors can learn about Wunambal Gaambera culture and the ancient rock art of the region.

An Uunguu Visitor Pass (UVP) is required to visit approved visitor locations in Wunambal Gaambera Country and must be obtained before travelling. Camping in the Ngauwudu Zone is permitted at Munurru and Mertens Creek campgrounds.
