See the huge 75 metre high smoke stack, which is the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. The old mine was founded in 1936 and is no longer operating, though you can still get an insight into how the local sulphide gold ore was mined using cyanide, arsenic and nitric acid, the containers can still be seen.
The tourist centre has a range of information about the local area. If you are after a unique souvenir, you may be impressed by the range of quality gemstones and natural gold nugget jewellery items for sale.
Comet Gold Mine is 7 kilometres from Marble Bar, which is just over a two-hour drive south of Port Hedland.
