Held over two days in January, the world-class Karnidale Circus Festival takes place on a unique purpose-built site, set in the picturesque surroundings of Karridale. The festival features an incredible line-up of Australian circus cabaret, comedy and magic along with live bands, DJs, market stalls and bars. Enjoy an authentic festival experience and get up close and personal with acrobats, aerialists and sideshow superstars strutting their stuff on a stunning country estate. If you are brave, you can even try some circus classes as part of the Lunar Circus Summer School! Karnidale Festival is like no other festival experience in the world. Andrew Hamilton- Jokes About The Time I Went To Prison - Fringe World
In 2021, Andrew Hamilton spent four months in two of Sydney’s maximum-security prisons for the commercial supply of psychedelic drugs. While incarcerated, Andrew began noticing the transportive power of laughter. After all, if a joke can make you forget you’re in prison, what else can it do? Upon his release, Andrew took up stand-up comedy, initially under strict bail conditions where his parents had to come with him to shows, and he had to be home in time for curfew. A year later, Andrew performed his debut solo show ‘Jokes About the Time I Went to Prison’, at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Andrew’s show garnered him critical acclaim, along with a nomination for Best Newcomer.

An adrenaline-filled dance-theatre show that celebrates women’s football and the community it creates. The popularity of women’s football in Australia has skyrocketed since the success of the Commbank Matildas in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. However, the laborious voyage toward equality for women in sports does not end with the popularity of the Matildas. Witness these players focus on women’s football in order to zoom out and highlight the importance of equity across all women’s sports. The whistle is blown, the crowd goes wild and the girls are ready to fight with the biggest kicks of their lives.

Join two overthinkers as they take you on a visual and confessional journey of the words left unsaid, the thoughts never acted upon, and the people who keep the memories of these ‘almosts’ in the back of their brain, ruminating on what could have been. Here, the ‘almosts’ are everywhere: texts you never sent, people you might have loved, places you could have called home. All the Times I Could Have is an invitation to reflect on the choices we made and also the ones we didn’t, and how we can better navigate this coexistence. Are the things that almost happened simply regrets, or are they opportunities to rewrite your life?

Get in the 'Getaway Car' and let Dean take you on a journey through all the eras, the highs and lows, the good and the bad, and of course all of the 'Sad Beautiful Tragic' moments of teenagehood. Dean is Naarm/Melbourne-based writer and performer, with sold-out seasons of his past cabaret ‘The Date’, having performed in Midsumma, Melbourne Fringe and Adelaide fringe, and recently premiered this show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Form and feeling: artists’ studies of the twentieth century
Form and feeling: artists’ studies of the twentieth century explores the centrality of drawing to the artistic practice of British and Australian artists, including Stanley Spencer, William Dobell, Russell Drysdale and Frank Auerbach. Drawn from The State Art Collection, this exhibition brings together significant figurative oil paintings and their preparatory drawings – a number of which have never been shown before. Form and feeling is focused upon technique and process, exploring the differing approaches to line, shape, contour and materiality as these artists progress preliminary sketches into finished works. Form and feeling brings to the fore the politics of collecting in Australian public institutional history, wherein Modern British art was keenly collected – particularly after WWII. This exhibition explores the influence that these artists had upon the Australian art scene at the time and restages this influence for audiences today.

This photographic exhibition brings together historic photographs from the Western Australian Museum’s Dwyer and MacKay Collection, with contemporary images captured by Fremantle-based photographer Brett Leigh Dicks. Iconic locations like The Palace Hotel and Boulder Town Hall, alongside quiet streets and abandoned mining claims, offer a unique view of the evolving Goldfields landscape. In addition to the photographs, Dicks collaborated with local residents to create a series of poems, drawing on their personal stories and memories. These poems will be displayed alongside the images, offering a deeper connection to the region’s history and community.

Henry Roy – Impossible Island
In a world-first, legendary photographer Henry Roy holds his first survey at The Art Gallery of Western Australia. Henry Roy – Impossible Island draws on 40 years of recollections and observations as it brings together 113 photos taken from 1983 to 2023. The images were shot in places such as his native Haiti, Ibiza, Paris, Dakar, Cameroon, Normandy, Marrakesh, Thailand, and the Ivory Coast. Impossible Island channels the many influences that have shaped Roy’s artistic journey including his exile from his homeland of Haiti to his love of literature and passion for New Wave French cinema. Henry Roy’s work has been of international interest since the 1990s because of the incredible beauty and richness of his imagery, qualities that have made him a sought-after photographer in magazine editorial and exhibition contexts. His photographic vision was a key component of the new publishing trends in the late 1990s, specifically as a contributor to Purple, and later in the 2000s Hobo magazine.

Kelsey Ashe - The Deep Green Sea
The Deep Green Sea is a major solo exhibition by Kelsey Ashe, presenting an immersive installation of expansive screen prints and short film. Ashe has created a surreal world of dark fairytales upon coastal seascapes, which are recognisably Antipodean, yet inflected with strange ecological allegories of the artist's imagination. Meticulously screen-printed in botanical inks and photoluminescent pigments at a giant scale, the oceanic-gothic artworks fittingly fill the large inner sanctum of the former Catholic Chapel at BRAG. Ashe envisions the sublime and mysterious within landscapes by drawing on her studies in Japanese aesthetic philosophy and print-making techniques. The artist seeks instances of yugen; a Japanese word referring to the ‘dark, tranquil colour of the universe and the profound awareness of this which triggers a deep emotional response’.

Etched in Fire is a survey exhibition of internationally recognised potter, Chester Nealie. This extensive exhibition, spanning the entirety of the gallery's lower floor, celebrates Nealie’s six-decade career marked by innovation and mastery in ceramic art. From his beginnings in New Zealand in 1964 to his recent work in the South West, Nealie’s journey reflects his relentless pursuit of a unique aesthetic through experimentation with clay and fire. Nealie’s relationships with leading figures such as Len Castle and Peter Stitchbury in New Zealand and Peter Rushforth, Alan Peascod, Owen Rye, and Janet Mansfield in Australia highlight his significant role in the wood-firing tradition. His influence and dedication to the ceramics communities in Australia and New Zealand have cemented his legacy, with works housed in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Musée National de Céramique in Paris, The National Gallery of Australia, and the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa. The exhibition will also feature the many influences on Nealie’s work, including internationally significant historic ceramics from around the world, all selected from Nealie’s private collection. Experience the evolution of a master potter whose contributions continue to shape the world of ceramics by joining us at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery for this extraordinary exhibition.

Tributaries
Tributaries explores the fibres of flora, fauna, and human systems. It includes jewellery, small fine metal sculptures, and objects formed by corrosion casting, a process by which resin is injected into animal organs and other biological systems to form moulds of internal spaces. These objects are placed in dialogue with photographic images and poetry that document the thrum of life and death in environmental arterial systems, connecting roots, rivers, skeletons, and veins. Tributaries is both a contemporary memento mori and a reminder of the constantly changing states of all organic matter, including our own bodies – a testament to the interconnection of human, animal and environment.

On Thursday 30th of November 1876, the S.S. Georgette left Busselton bound for Adelaide via Albany, carrying cargo and passengers. The steamer sail ship sadly didn’t make her destination in a tragic loss of life that echoed around the globe. Learn about the disastrous final voyage of the S.S. Georgette as you immerse yourself in this new permanent heritage exhibition at Busselton’s Old Courthouse Complex. Forgotten Voyages - Rediscovering the S.S. Georgette presents previously untold stories from survivors and other sources about the heartbreak and heroism of this infamous shipwreck. Free to experience, visitors are invited to learn about the series of errors and events that resulted in the tragic loss of 12 souls at sea. The Busselton Courthouse hosted the initial inquiry into the tragedy and we are now proud to present this exhibition that honours the heroes and commemorates those who perished at sea. This heritage exhibition is housed in the New Courtroom and offers concise information suitable to all ages. Join the Heritage tour of the Old Courthouse Complex where your guide will tell you tales from the gaol cells, stories of the S.S. Georgette shipwreck and outline Busselton’s interesting settlement history highlighting hardships of pioneer life and those who governed. Advance bookings are required.

Balancing Act
Our story is not one story, but many stories to share. Balancing Act features Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander works of art from the State Art Collection. In this exhibition, you will encounter a vast range of material revealing the wide scope of First Nations truth-telling and art-making practice. Radical observations about the ups and downs of life are placed side by side with expressions of relationships with Custodial Country; the locations and places artists and communities care for, according to their kin and family ties with place. Different versions of history are told, at times emotional and challenging, alongside moments of great beauty and poignancy. Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists use their cultural production to investigate feelings and unpack ideas around identity in the wake of colonisation. Others use their work as a way to support and express their own grief and healing, as well as to express joy and cultural belonging. Balancing Act invites you to be surprised, delighted and challenged by the stories told through the eyes of First Nations artists and their works of art.

Every Saturday, visitors are invited to experience this 45 minute, free event, including a smoking ceremony and celebration dance from a different Nyoongar performance group each week. Continue your journey into the Museum exhibition Ngalang Koort, Boodja Wirn – Our Heart, Country, Spirit in Wesfarmers Arts gallery, or join a guided tour through the Museum to experience Boola Bardip – ‘many stories’ from Aboriginal communities from around Western Australia. WA Museum Boola Bardip is on Whajduk Nyoongar boodjar. Nyoongar peoples are the Traditional Owners of the south-west boodjar (country) that covers the land from Jurien Bay, to Moora, and to the south coast between Bremer Bay and Esperance. There are 14 clans in Nyoongar nation. The WA Museum acknowledges the diversity that exists in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and that the spelling of words may also vary. Andrew Hamilton- Jokes About The Time I Went To Prison - Fringe World
In 2021, Andrew Hamilton spent four months in two of Sydney’s maximum-security prisons for the commercial supply of psychedelic drugs. While incarcerated, Andrew began noticing the transportive power of laughter. After all, if a joke can make you forget you’re in prison, what else can it do? Upon his release, Andrew took up stand-up comedy, initially under strict bail conditions where his parents had to come with him to shows, and he had to be home in time for curfew. A year later, Andrew performed his debut solo show ‘Jokes About the Time I Went to Prison’, at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Andrew’s show garnered him critical acclaim, along with a nomination for Best Newcomer.

However, the laborious voyage toward equality for women in sports does not end with the popularity of the Matildas. Witness these players focus on women’s football in order to zoom out and highlight the importance of equity across all women’s sports. Form and feeling: artists’ studies of the twentieth century
Form and feeling: artists’ studies of the twentieth century explores the centrality of drawing to the artistic practice of British and Australian artists, including Stanley Spencer, William Dobell, Russell Drysdale and Frank Auerbach. Drawn from The State Art Collection, this exhibition brings together significant figurative oil paintings and their preparatory drawings – a number of which have never been shown before. Form and feeling is focused upon technique and process, exploring the differing approaches to line, shape, contour and materiality as these artists progress preliminary sketches into finished works. Form and feeling brings to the fore the politics of collecting in Australian public institutional history, wherein Modern British art was keenly collected – particularly after WWII. This exhibition explores the influence that these artists had upon the Australian art scene at the time and restages this influence for audiences today.

Lotterywest Films Perth Festival
Lotterywest Films is bringing the world to you with a wide-ranging program of 23 films from more than 15 countries that reflect the dynamism of today’s cinema landscape and audiences. There’ll be plenty to make you laugh, cry, think, question, rage, rejoice and talk about long after the credits roll. This year, the festival-within-a-festival introduces special screenings sprinkled throughout the season – bringing you an even greater diversity of stories from some of the best truth-tellers and mischief-makers, both new and established. And of course, there is the most loved films of the season in the final encore week. Get set to lose yourself in a world of cinema at Perth’s best summer movie-watching. Door sales from 6pm nightly. Picnickers are welcome from 6pm but must be seated by 8pm. Bring a picnic or select from the mouthwatering summer foods available at the venue. See the website for the full program. Time and Time Again: Rephotographing the Goldfields
Step back in time and see Kalgoorlie through a new lens. This photographic exhibition brings together historic photographs from the Western Australian Museum’s Dwyer and MacKay Collection, with contemporary images captured by Fremantle-based photographer Brett Leigh Dicks. Iconic locations like The Palace Hotel and Boulder Town Hall, alongside quiet streets and abandoned mining claims, offer a unique view of the evolving Goldfields landscape. In addition to the photographs, Dicks collaborated with local residents to create a series of poems, drawing on their personal stories and memories. These poems will be displayed alongside the images, offering a deeper connection to the region’s history and community.
