From the white sands of Safety Bay you can sail, windsurf, kayak, cruise, snorkel or dive to meet some of the amazing marine life of Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Visit Penguin Island and the west coast’s largest colony of little penguins, spot rare Australian sea lions on Seal Island, and see a huge variety of fish species and seabirds.

An easy 45-minute drive south of Perth brings you through the seaside town of Rockingham to the shores of Safety Bay.

Between September and June, ferries and wildlife cruises will take you across to Penguin Island and the interpretive centre for an introduction to some of its cutest inhabitants – 1,200 fairy penguins. You may also spot some of the 50 species of seabirds that rest and nest here, including the largest colony of pelicans in Western Australia.

Take the glass-bottom boat for a 45-minute cruise of nearby Seal Island, and you’ll also get to meet their neighbours – the rare Australian sea lions.
Fresh afternoon breezes in the summer months create excellent sailing and windsurfing conditions in Safety Bay.

The flat, sheltered waters are also perfect for paddle boarding, jet skiing and even jet packing adventures.
